課程概述 Course Description
This course will introduce students to the political, religious and social contexts of a wide range of literature written during the Victorian period. Having surveyed relevant background material students will read some of the major novels, poetry and drama of the period so that they may be acquainted with a wide range of treatments of the big Victorian issues.

課程目標 Course Objectives
This course will provide a strong foundation for future research in Victorian Literature.

課程要求 Requirements
This course is open to third-year undergraduate students (15). A high level of participation is expected as well as the willingness to work in reading groups for the purpose of seminar preparation. E-mail comments and questions about the readings will be circulated in advance of our meetings each week to facilitate in-depth discussions.
